Research

The Research Room is open to the public on weekdays from 10am to 4pm.

The ASHBURTON MUSEUM holds a substantial and increasing archive of material related to many aspects of the history of the Ashburton District.

It includes material about clubs, families, businesses and some schools and churches.

There are also subject and family files containing material gleaned from a number of sources.

In addition there is a very extensive illustrations collection — see details on the 'Photos' button.

If you would like to visit the Museum to enquire about a topic you are researching, it would be appreciated if you would get in touch first to make a time.

There is no charge for research unless you require assistance from staff.

If you are unable to visit, Museum staff can carry out some research for you for a reasonable fee, as detailed below. In such cases your enquiry is best submitted by mail or email, or simple enquiries can be dealt with by telephone.

Fees (GST Inclusive)

There is no charge for accessing family files, photo catalogue databases and the museum library in person; however donations towards museum costs are appreciated.

Researching in museum archives can only be carried out by museum staff. Charges apply for photocopying, printouts and in-depth research conducted by staff beyond initial introductory work.

There is no charge for simple counter or telephone enquiries, or the first half hour of searching finding aids, but donations are appreciated.

Research Fees:

Where assistance is required: Per 30 minutes (minimum) $30.00

Offsite Research: Per 30 minutes (minimum) $40.00 (only if staff available)

Photocopying & printouts: Per A4 page $0.20 (per side)

Per A3 page $0.40 (per side)

The above fees apply to research and photocopying only. Other fees are listed under the 'Photos' Button.
